Hector is an Artist born in Argentina with German citizenship.
His father was a tailor and his mother carried the lights of the salted desert from the north of Argentina in her eyes.
He studied in the School of Fine arts at the University of Córdoba.
Somewhat later he began to collaborate in as illustrator for different newspapers and magazines, both in Argentina and in foreign countries. He also began to participate in different film projects, and together with a group of friends, created an film workshop studio for children.
In 1982 he moved to Brazil where he was published in the newspaper "La Fohla do Sao Paulo".
In 1983 he arrived in Italy, where besides continuing his film experience, he began to collaborate in the satiric supplement of the newspaper LA REPUBBLICA and in the creation of the magazine L' ANAMORFICO directed by Pino Zac and where Topor, Puig Rosado, Desclozeaux, Barbe, and Cardon were published.
In 1986 he transferred to Berlin.
In 1992, he published BLUE TANGO, a graphic novel whose main character is Paulo Funes a melancholic detective who comes from the cold and distant south.
He makes many animations films and videoart projekts.
Hector works with Chinese ink and watercolours. He combines the wet brush technique with the dry brush technique. Sometimes washes on the already painted surface and let it run the ink into the paper (Ink wash painting). He uses different types of paper, sometimes smooth, sometimes extremely rough, so that the colour flows like a rough topography. Then, the ink becomes river stone dust or air.
He spent his childhood in Sumampa, a small town in northeast Argentina in the province of Santiago del Estero. The dry heat, the infinity of the horizon line, the ochre and brown tones of the earth and the dusty wind marked his childhood. Sumampa (Sumaj Mampa) means "beautiful flowing water" and now, after 28 years of living in Berlin are this “memory landscapes” of the south and the influence of the Nordic light, which constitutes the kaleidoscope perceptive of Hector Navarrete.
